Hydrostor is a leading developer of Advanced Compressed Air Energy Storage (A-CAES) systems, a technology uniquely suited to enable the transition to a cleaner, more reliable electricity grid. A-CAES provides grid services that are not readily replicated by other storage technologies, giving it unique market potential. It flexibly addresses bulk electricity system needs for dispatchable capacity, renewable integration and optimization, transmission deferral and ancillary services, and is ideal for use in behind-the-meter or remote applications for mines and large industrial operations. Hydrostor’s solution delivers low-cost, long duration bulk energy storage (hundreds of MWs, 4-24+ hours) that is synchronous and emission-free and can be located where required by the grid. Hydrostor is based in Toronto and is in the midst of significant growth both in Canada and internationally, in markets such as the U.S., Australia and Chile where the company is currently developing projects.


Hydrostor is looking for a candidate who has full cycle accounting experience, IFRS research and technical analysis as well as experience with system conversion, testing and process documentation. Hydrostor is currently in the process of changing financial systems and we will require a candidate who is familiar with both Microsoft Dynamics Business Central and QuickBooks.


Full Cycle Accounting experience:

  • Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive analysis on the application of IFRS over significant accounting transactions including the new revenue and lease standards.

  • Research technical accounting for complex transactions and evaluate the impact on the consolidated financial statements and draft appropriate journal entries;

  • Reconcile and analyze complex accounts with working papers and supporting documentation (inter-company accounts, capitalized interest, etc.).

  • Prepare adjustments, book journal entries, and provide general support.

  • Perform the closing of the company and its subsidiaries books including bank and other GL accounts reconciliations as well as HST/GST reporting.

  • Assist in the preparation of timely and complete consolidated financial statements and analysis of significant fluctuations.

  • Support, develop and maintain financial and management reports per request.

  • Assist with periodic accounting closings and audit requirements;

  • Process Documentation experience:

  • Assist with implementation of new system processes geared toward enhancing consolidated financial reporting activities.

  • Assist in the data conversion from the old to the new system.

  • Produce accounting analysis to compare results from old and new system and identify discrepancies.

  • Develop process documentation and training materials

  • Work with accounting schedules and reconciliations required for system implementation and to align with closing checklist.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic and motivated team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced, growth environment in a financial capacity. She/he will demonstrate a willingness to take initiative, be performance driven, and take accountability for areas under their responsibility. Critical thinking and good judgment will be important. A good communicator, both written and oral, who listens well and can deal effectively with internal and external partners. Experienced with system conversions will be essential as the role will require someone to support the implementation of a new system and develop processes geared toward enhancing consolidated financial reporting activities. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic and be able to succeed in an environment with many concurrent projects and deadlines.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with CPA designation or working towards to the CPA designation ;

  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant IFRS accounting experience and experience in full cycle accounting - AP, AR, and maintaining general ledgers, etc.;

  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics Business Central and QuickBooks (preferred);

  • Solid knowledge in IFRS with prior experience with IFRS research and technical accounting;

  • Experience documenting accounting processes, policies and training materials;

  • Strong technical skills with financial system testing, conversion and training;

  • Proven ability to deal effectively with internal and external partners;

  • Ability to identify work priorities, take initiative, ensure requirements / deadlines are met and function with very little supervision;

  • Ability to work as part of a team and holds self accountable for meeting commitments;

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
